FAQ | Hôtel La Désirade ***
Rooms
What is the view from the rooms?
Being 2km from the coast and therefore sheltered from the ocean spray, we are lucky to have a large flowery and shady garden with trees and flowers. All the rooms have a view over this garden (most of the bathrooms too) and they have no rooms directly opposite.
Is there internet in the rooms?
In order to promote your digital disconnection, and to echo the ever-increasing encouragement of our guests, we have chosen not to equip our rooms with Wifi coverage. You will find it in the reception room, with free access. If you have specific needs, we can lend you a Wifi box.
Do the rooms have balconies or terraces?
No they don’t, but our large garden with its trees and flowers is full of quiet “little corners” with deckchairs. You can relax there, without fear of being embarrassed by your neighbours’ conversations or phones.
Are there communicating rooms?
There are 5 family suites for 3 to 5 people, on the first floor, with private entrance, 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom/wc. Two of them can be combined to form the “Appart Désirade” with living room and equipped kitchen, for 7 people.
Two pairs of “Coup de Coeur” rooms (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms / wc), located on the ground floor, have a private entrance.
We also have “La Maison Désirade”, a duplex, with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a kitchen/dining room.
How are your rooms made for persons with reduced mobility?
Two bedrooms are designed to allow a wheelchair to move freely. The shower is directly accessible by wheelchair. One of the rooms has a double bed in 160×200, the other has 2 beds in 90×200. All the hotel’s services (reception, dining rooms, spa) are on the ground floor.
Feel free to contact us by phone to discuss together the additional accommodations best suited to your case (wheelchair, personal assistance, nursing care…).

Is there a bar?
On the hotel side, small appetites and big thirsts can be satisfied all day long:
- From 8am to 11am with our sweet and sour breakfast with mostly homemade and local products.
- In the afternoon, with drinks and cakes served on the terrace or near the pool.
- From 6pm with homemade cocktails and the “gourmet aperitif” with spreads entirely prepared in our kitchens.
- If you want a coffee, an infusion or a digestive after dinner, you can taste it in the restaurant.
Can we stay in a hotel without eating in the restaurant?
You can choose to have dinner or not at the Table de La Désirade. Nevertheless, as a precaution, we recommend to book your table the day before, especially in high season.

Every evening, the Menu at 44€ is composed of a buffet of starters, a choice of three main courses, cheese and desserts.
We have two specialities : Seafood platter (45€ per person) and the “Lobster Menu” (79€ per person). These two specialities have to be booked at least the day before.

Traveling
Should I bring my car in Belle-Île?
Before deciding whether or not to drive your car, we encourage you to think about the means of transport you want to use once you get there to discover Belle-Île as well as possible, taking into account the following elements:
– The main attraction of Belle-Île out of season is the 100km of coastal paths, only pedestrian, giving access to beaches, cliffs and other coves.
– The island is large (20kmx9km) and quite hilly. You can ride it by bike (VTC or electric bicycles for hire at the hotel, to be booked in advance), by scooter or by car (for hire at Palais, to be booked in advance,… and therefore ideally to be picked up on arrival), by bus (departures every 1h1/2 approximately, next to the hotel) or entirely on foot (the coastal path is 2km from the hotel).
– The crossing with the car on the ferry requires a reservation in advance, and its cost is significant (between 180€ and 400€ A/R, excluding passengers, depending on the size of your car and the date of the crossing).
Feel free to call us back if you need more advice.
How to get to the hotel when you are on foot?
Concerning the means of transport on Belle-Île, they are multiple and vary according to the way you plan your stay:
You will set foot on the island at the port of “Le Palais”. The hotel is located near the wild coast about 6km from the port in the direction of the aerodrome.
You can reach the hotel by bus: follow the purple signs from the pier to the bus station 8 minute-walk. Take line 2 (the journey takes 10 minutes) and get off at the Petit Cosquet stop, opposite the hotel. Tickets at 3€ each, sold on board. Attention, last bus at 18h20 from 06/04 to 29/09 (at 19h from 12/07 to 25/08).
In Belle-Île taxis are few and far between and only work on reservation. Let us know 24 hours in advance the arrival time of your boat, we will take care of the reservation for free! Count about 15-20€ the trip.
That being said, before deciding to board a bus or taxi at La Désirade, we encourage you to think about the means of transport you wish to use to discover Belle-Île as well as possible, taking into account the following elements:
– The main attraction of Belle-Île out of season is the 100km of coastal paths, only pedestrian, giving access to beaches, cliffs and other coves.
– The island is large (20kmx9km) and quite hilly. You can ride it by bike (VTC or electric bicycles for hire at the hotel, to be booked in advance), by scooter or by car (for hire at the Palais, to be booked in advance,… and therefore ideally to be recovered on arrival) or entirely on foot (the coastal path is 2km from the hotel).
Consult us if you arrive by pleasure boat or plane or simply if you need advice.
Is the hotel far from the sea?
La Désirade is 2km from the coastal path and the beautiful beaches of the wild coast: Donnant, surf and bodyboard spot, Vazen, a small, intimate and well sheltered beach or Kérel, the beach with shallow waters, ideal for young children.
Either 20min by foot, 10min by bike, 5min by car. And in Belle-Île, even in the middle of summer, traffic is good and parking near the beaches is not a problem.
